Live, AI, or delayed remote proctoring in colleges and universities has a new problem! Because proctoring often requires access to webcams, microphones, and screens, privacy concerns are on the rise due to the intrusive nature of the software. Proctoring has been known to invade students' personal spaces, leading to fears of data misuse and privacy breaches. There have even been lawsuits about the invasion of privacy with proctoring (see Cleveland State student wins federal lawsuit against university on breach of Fourth Amendment (cleveland19.com)). Additionally, these proctoring techniques can cause anxiety, particularly for students without access to private or quiet environments.
